2011 BMW X1 Review

BMW X1 - BMW
The BMW Crossover is a mix between the 3-series and the X5, and it's creating quite a stir hitting American roads in 2011.

New to the U.S. market for 2011, the BMW X1 is modeled after the more established 3-Series. Many assume BMW’s newest brain child encompasses the X5 in a smaller, more compact form – and it does.

However, the German auto maker blends this innovative concept with the practicality of traditional wagons and the tight handling of the 3-series to create a fresh head-turning crossover that leaves a long-lasting impression.

Keep in mind; this isn’t your mom’s crossover. It is fully equipped with all the trade mark features that BMW enthusiasts expect including an AWD drive train with a six speed automatic transmission that manages to hit 60 mph in just 6.8 seconds. Even better, the X1 keeps it altogether with 32 MPG on the highway, leaving you with considerable fuel savings and more spare cash at the end of day.

A quick test drive in the X1 proves its capabilities at haste. It solidly rounds curves and maintains respectable suspension and a smooth ride on even the bumpiest of roads. Unexpected and abrupt stops in the X1 brake firmly, and all passengers experience a quiet and relaxing drive.

BMW X1 Comfort

For BMW, luxurious is an understatement of its reputation. The first thing you’ll notice as you enter the X1 is its spacious interior and attractive appearance. In the driver and front passenger seating area, you’ll experience customizable seating adjustment, automatic temperature and fog adjustment, and an unforgettable HiFi surround sound system complete with a subwoofer and eight speakers.

An extra-wide, voice-controlled navigational display offers clear directions in high definition. The screen also transforms to provide traffic and weather updates, as well as e-mail and Bluetooth integration for hands-free productivity.

The rear seating area is equally remarkable, providing children and backseat passengers with a pivotal DVD screen with audio ports for two pair of headphones. It includes a built-in AV jack so kids can play video games on the go. For additional comfort, the center seat converts into an arm rest and beverage holder.

BMW X1 Safety

Perhaps the most impressive highlights of the BMW X1, however, comprise of its safety features. The X1 can cleverly predict hazardous situations and prevent accidents before they happen. If one wheel begins to falter or have a blow-out, the X1 will automatically transfer extra authority to the remaining tires to give the driver greater control. Should a flat or tire blow-out occur, however, the X1’s tires present a unique construction that allow them to travel more than 150 miles without inflation.

Inside the passenger area, commuters are surrounded by front and side curtain air bags, as well as a sturdy steel frame that strategically absorbs shock in road accidents. BMW even includes an emergency service that automatically detects accidents and transfers information about your location and the number of passengers in your vehicle to emergency services.

The Open Road

The X1’s power and attention to detail are sure to grab your interest. Because a description of opulence and functionality do not offer the X1 justice, only a hands-on test drive can convey its supremacy, dominating its class.
